colophon

3 November 2006

As someone who grew up designing in print, the gradual disappearance of the colophon on the Web is something to be mourned. If, like me, you’re curious as to what folks are using, here’s the information pertinent to evoque.

Before we go any further, though, let’s get one thing straight: this is a personal site and the thoughts and opinions expressed here are entirely my own (unless otherwise noted). This site is in no way connected with my employment, past or present, and absolutely nothing I’ve written should be taken as expressing or implying anything on my employer’s behalf. Just as it should be.

Author

Elle Cayabyab was born in September 1978 in Metro Manila, the Philippines. She’s pretty sure it was a Saturday. As a child, she loved Keroppi, her Barbie dolls, and taho, a Filipino delicacy. She took piano lessons and was a pink tulip in her kindergarten production of “Thumbelina.”

On the occasion of her marriage to Jonathan in November 2005, she added his last name to her existing collection, thus becoming Elle Cayabyab Gitlin. They currently reside in Lexington, Kentucky.

Nowadays, she’s happily employed as an independent consultant, continuing her career in e-learning and instructional design. At times it makes be wearying, but the pay is excellent, the work environment is stable, and her income allows her to support their three cats in the lifestyle to which they are accustomed.

In her free time, Elle devours shelter magazines and plots the next mid-century modern piece with which to decorate Opera House Square. After multiple attempts, she can now make pancit that tastes almost as good as her mother’s. She even learned how to drive a stickshift, and happily takes her little convertible to work every day. Her best friend still says she needs to have another color in her closet besides black. And she never did teach the cats to fetch.

Code

XHTML is loved and feared, otherwise the standardistas would be after me. CSS is also A Good Thing™.

Typography

You could call it a trademark of sorts, but the font of choice around these parts is GarageFonts’ District family. Everywhere else you should be seeing Lucida.

Production

I use Windows out of habit, although in the interest of fairness I also have an iPod.

This site should look reasonably nice, provided you aren’t using some crazy moon browser (like OmniWeb). Hopefully you’re using FireFox, which makes my world go ‘round and, occasionally, eats up all my RAM.

The templates were lovingly coded by hand in Notepad++ and are used by TextPattern to dish up entries. Flickr serves up photos galore, and Twitter provides sporadic chatter.
